What is Local?
The definition of “local” products is interpreted differently depending on perspective and scale. Horizon purchases products from across North America and Europe. We define “local” for our operations to be “products manufactured, packaged and shipped to Horizon from a location within British Columbia.
Why Choose Local Foods?
Local foods tend to be produced in smaller scale operations servicing their surrounding areas, using local inputs and local labour. This leads to more money staying in the local economy, more self-sufficiency in local food systems and less dependence on foods affected by global volatility. In some cases, food produced and shipped locally uses fewer resources and has a gentler impact on the planet.
